Crash Items

421 Bahrain 195012-6}, Air mail Saigon to Paris flight, crashed upon landing at Bahrain,
damaged item, without adhesives and most of reverse missing. Sent to Versailles
and re-directed to Paris, Has straight line black "Courrier Accidente" cachets {2}, on
reverse Versailles postmark of July 10 and small fragment of Officially Sealed tape
Air France flight and loss of 46-40 passengers and 6 crew. {Nierinck 500612a}
and scarcer.

422 Italy 1937 Air mail cover {Larger than normal} from Palestine f.w. 53m adhs. British
plane“Cygnus” flew from Karachi to Brindisi. On 4th Nov. On take on 5th Nov it
overturned on take off and sank. Mail saved but many casualties. Applied by British
P.O. *** Damaged By Sea Water/In Airplane/Accident violet cachet. Mail from
Palestine scarcer. Addressed to Bristol.

423 France 1946 ppc with burn marks around edge and adhesives missing and sent on
3-9-46 to Francis Field, Sutton Coldfield. Sent in ambulance cover to F. Field from
French P.O.air mail on 16-9-46. Originally sent from Le Bourget airport on flight
Paris/Croydon on 09-15am September 04, 1946 Lost altitude after losing an engine
on takeoff and crashed into a factory yard. Lost 20 passengers and 2 crew. Has
**/*** Service Postal Francais/Correspondance Retarde/Par accident d’avion/ Friere
ce no pas taxer cachet. Good for crash item and ambulance.

424 U.S.A. 1929 Air mail cover 5c adh from **/*** Atlanta, Ca/Mar 1/1929 duplex d.s.
flown from Daytona Beach, Fla Pitcairn Aviation Flight. Daytona to Tampa but
failed to take off and plunged into the river. Some had special markings this has
none. Back stamped at Orlando Mar1 {AAMS 29.6}

425 U.S.A.1954 Air cover from East Germany and addressed to Orlando, Fla On Aug. 4
1954, an Air France Super Constellation with 37 people on board crashed in a
potato field in Preston. Surprisingly, all of the 37 passengers aboard the survived
the crash. Destination was Norwich, Conn. Has on back **/*** Delay caused by Air
mail Interruption Near Norwich, Connecticit violet cachet. {N540803}

431 GERMANY-Zeppelin Carrier Cover 1930 Registered cover sent to the Zeppelin
Company Office at Freidrichshafen for flight of Graf Zeppelin { Flight round
Germany} f.w. 45pf adh. canc. **/*** Keil/19 6 30 d.s. and back stamped there.
Inside the prepaid cover which would be carried on Zeppelins flight. These covers
sent to the company were normally destroyed. Hence their scarcity. Most collectors
of Zeppelin flights don’t even know about these items.
