398 H.M.S. Tara 1915 ppc S.S. Hibernia {Cross Holyhead/Dublin}-L&NW Railway
Company} Following the outbreak of WWI she was commandeered by the Admiralty,
refitted for patrol service, and renamed HMS Tara. Later on the 5th November 1915,
with a crew of 104, She was sunk by German U boat 35. and eventually 93 sur
vivors. Taken then by Turkish authorities and several Senussi soldiers.On the morn
ing of November 15th they were marched for four hours to the sea shore, where
they were joined by survivors of another boat - HMS Moorina - also sunk by the U
boats.They marched to Bir el Hakim, 250 miles from where their ordeal had began.
The survivors are left solely in control of the Senussi soldiers and some Turkish
Officers. In captivity for 135 days until March the 17th 1916, they were rescued by a
British convoy headed by the Duke of Westminster. made a 120 mile dash across
hostile territory to rescue them. The H.M.S. Tara crewed by mostly Welsh crew.

H.M.S. Mosquito c/o C F B Alexandria. HMS Mosquito coastal forces base at
Alexandria, Egypt during World War II. The base was operational from1942 to 1945
as a repair centre for coastal forces boats.
